BORIS BECKER MAPS OUT WIMBLEDON RETURN PLAN AFTER TALKS WITH AUTHORITIES

Boris Becker has confirmed that he is in talks with the authorities over a return to Wimbledon next year.

The three-time Wimbledon champion missed last year's tournament after serving eight months of a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for bankruptcy offences.

Becker will once again be absent when Wimbledon begins later this summer, but The Laureus Academy member was optimistic when asked if he would be back at The All England Lawn Tennis Club in 2025.

“I very much hope so,” he said in Madrid ahead of this year's award ceremony. “Not this year but we’re working on 2025. It’s been my favourite tournament as a player, coach and commentator. It’s unique, you can’t compare it. I lived in Wimbledon for a long time so I’m working hard with the authorities to have all the applications ready to be back for next year.”

Becker was previously a fixture of the BBC's coverage, although it remains to be seen if he will return to the commentary team. When he was asked if that was a possibility, he added: “I hope so.”

Becker was deported to his native Germany in December 2022 after spending eight months inside a UK prison. It is unclear how long Becker's travel ban will prevent him from returning to the UK, although some can last up to 10 years.

Becker won his first Wimbledon title at just 17 years of age. He went on to win 49 singles titles in total during his illustrious career, including six Grand Slams.
