'WE ARE NOT IN CONTROL' - EDDIE HOWE REVEALS DETAILS OF BRUNO GUIMARAES' £100M NEWCASTLE RELEASE CLAUSE AMID INTEREST FROM ARSENAL, MANCHESTER UNITED AND PSG

  • Guimaraes has £100m release clause
  • Howe says the clause will expire on June 30
  • Interested clubs will have to negotiate after that point

WHAT HAPPENED?

Guimaraes has invited a lot of attention for a summer move away from the Magpies this summer thanks to his form this season. It has been reported that Newcastle could receive offers from the likes of Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, among others. The Newcastle boss has revealed a special detail in Guimaraes' contract that will save the club a lot of tension going into the summer.

WHAT HOWE SAID

Speaking to the media, Howe said [via The Guardian]: "Having that was well planned and structured in the sense that there’s a finish point. We don’t want a summer of speculation. I don’t think that would be healthy for the player or for us.

"We want to keep Bruno. We want to build our team around him. He’s an integral part of what we’re doing. His form has been very good. He seems very happy and settled here. He’s a big part of where we can hopefully take the team. But we’re not in control of that so we shall see."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

With Guimaraes' release clause set to expire in June, the club will be able to deter any movement by another club to sign the Brazilian pivot by simply hiking up the asking price for the inquiring club. Although Howe has revealed that he or the club have no intentions of selling Guimaraes this summer, his sale at the given release clause would significantly help them by giving them a greater margin with the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability rules.

WHAT NEXT FOR GUIMARAES?

Guimaraes' release clause is set to expire on June 30 at midnight and after that point, any interested club will have to negotiate with the Magpies for his services. As such, that will also give Howe ample time to look for a replacement if the Brazilian does depart the club.
