RYAN REYNOLDS & ROB MCELHENNEY INVOLVED IN TALKS TO DETERMINE FATE OF WREXHAM STARS – WITH PHIL PARKINSON EXPLAINING WHEN CONTRACT CALLS WILL BE MADE

  • Dragons bounced up into League One
  • Squad to be reshaped over the summer
  • Nine players heading towards free agency

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Red Dragons have already wrapped up a top-three finish and automatic promotion out of League Two, meaning that attention can begin to drift towards next season. There is plenty for them to consider, with reinforcements expected to be drafted in during the summer transfer window.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Wrexham also have big calls to make on those that are heading towards free agency. There are nine players seeing their deals at SToK Racecourse run down, with Mark Howard, Rob Lainton, Callum McFadzean, Ben Tozer, Aaron Hayden, Jordan Tunnicliffe, James McClean and Luke Young waiting to discover whether extension offers will be tabled.

WHAT PARKINSON SAID

Parkinson has said of the process involved there and when future decisions will be made: “I have had talks with Shaun Harvey and will have further chats this week with Shaun and the owners about how we are going to approach everything. There are a lot of players out of contract. There are some decisions to be made about players and it is about sitting down as staff and making the right ones. Of course you have got to let people know about their futures as soon as we can but equally, we want to make the right decisions and that is what we intend to do. We will have further talks this week and made the decisions we feel are right for the individual and for the team going forward.”

WHAT NEXT FOR WREXHAM?

Wrexham are eager to avoid sweeping change ahead of their step up into League One, with stability and continuity important qualities to boast in their ranks. Not everybody will be sticking around, as another trip to Las Vegas is lined up, but there will be plenty of familiar faces in North Wales for 2024-25.
