STEWARDS HAVE VERDICT READY ON ASTON MARTIN APPEAL: THIS IS THE DECISION

Delegates from Aston Martin and Ferrari had to get up early on Friday, as at 8 a.m. local time in Miami, as a so-called 'Right to Review' was filed by the British team following a penalty for Fernando Alonso in the sprint race in China. Indeed, Aston Martin was convinced it had new evidence that Alonso's penalty should be reversed. But after a hearing, it emerged that the stewards found no new evidence and thus rejected the appeal.

Alonso receives heavy penalty after collision with Sainz

During the sprint race for the Chinese Grand Prix, Alonso and Sainz collided during a fierce fight. The Aston Martin driver suffered a puncture in the process, which dropped him far down the rankings. On top of that, the stewards gave him a hefty time penalty and three penalty points on his licence, bringing his total penalty points to six.

Aston Martin did not agree. Prior to the Miami GP, representatives from both Aston Martin and Ferrari had to report to the stewards. The hearing thus assessed whether there was a "significant new element not yet available to the applicant at the time of the decision in question". The stewards ruled that this was not the case.
