USMNT STAR TIM WEAH'S BRILLIANT ASSIST SENDS JUVENTUS THROUGH TO COPPA ITALIA FINAL AS WESTON MCKENNIE AND CO. KNOCK OUT LAZIO IN DRAMATIC FASHION

  • Weah provides winning assist
  • McKennie starts and shakes off injury
  • Juve headed to Coppa Italia final

WHAT HAPPENED?

Juventus entered Tuesday's second leg with a 2-0 lead, but they did little to protect it as Lazio stormed right back into the tie.

Lazio got their first goal through Valentin Castellanos, just 12 minutes in, but the former New York City FC attacker was just getting started. After squandering a few chances to make it two, Castellanos did get his second early in the second half, leveling the score at two apiece over the two legs.

Juventus, though, got their goal late, with a pair of substitutes combining for the tie-winning goal. Weah was the provider, as the American put it on a platter for Arkadiusz Milik, who made no mistake from close range to seal a 3-2 aggregate win despite the 2-1 loss on the day.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Coppa Italia is Juve's final chance at a trophy this season, having missed out on Europe altogether due to their performances last campaign. Inter, meanwhile, have already locked up the Serie A title thanks to their win over Milan on Monday.

Juve will get a chance to play for silverware on May 15, though. They'll face either Atalanta or Fiorentina, with the latter holding a 1-0 lead heading into their second-leg clash on Wednesday.

USMNT IMPACT

The assist was a big moment for Weah, who has spent much of this season as a backup wingback. After beginning the season as a starter, Weah was knocked out of the XI due to injury, and he never really recovered his place in the starting lineup.

His contribution on Tuesday was his biggest in a Juventus shirt, for sure. Weah came into the match in the 73rd minute and teed up Milik in the 83rd. Milik will get the headlines as the goalscorer, but it was Weah's pass across goal that made the easy finish possible.

Weston McKennie, meanwhile, retained his place in the Juve XI. The American shook off an injury in the second half, having been forced off the field temporarily with an apparent foot injury. He nearly reed up Dusan Vlahovic minutes later and was ultimately substituted in the 81st minute after a solid shift.

GOAL'S RATINGS

Weston McKennie (6/10):

Had a few good moments. Shook off a painful-looking injury and soldiered on through the second half despite being in obvious pain.

Tim Weah (8/10):

You can't make a bigger impact than that, can you? Came on and provided the game-changing assist to push his team one step closer to a trophy.

WHAT COMES NEXT?

Juventus face a big match this weekend, particularly for Weah and McKennie. The Bianconeri are set to play host to AC Milan in a clash of Serie A giants that will see Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah visit their USMNT teammates.
