NO MANCHESTER UNITED RETURN FOR MASON GREENWOOD

Mason Greenwood’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain as Getafe president Ángel Torres has announced that the forward is unlikely to return to Old Trafford next season. Speaking on Spanish radio, Torres confirmed that Greenwood, who joined Getafe on a season-long loan in September, wishes to stay with the La Liga club. Despite Greenwood’s impressive form, scoring eight league goals and two in the Copa del Rey, Manchester United is prepared to let him leave if a suitable offer emerges.

Greenwood, 22, had not played for United since January 2022 due to a criminal investigation into possible attempted rape, controlling behaviour, and assault. Although the charges were dropped, his involvement in the scandal left his future with the Red Devils in doubt. The loan to Getafe provided him with an opportunity to rebuild his career, and the Spanish side has warmly embraced him.

Torres emphasized Greenwood’s positive impact, noting that the striker has regained his form and is well-liked by both the fans and coach. “If it was up to the lad, his parents and the club [Getafe], I think he would continue for another year. But regarding Manchester [United], the news that we have from last week where the [Getafe] sporting director went to England to see some games and was with them, is that if a good offer comes along, they would want to sell because he is not going to go back there [to Manchester].

“We’ll have to wait until the end of June. The family and the player are very comfortable and very happy here, with our fans. When he came here, he hadn’t played for 16 months. He has recovered his form, he has scored eight league goals and two in the Copa. The people and the coach are very happy with him. I think he will remain with us for another season, or at least until January. He is a good footballer,” Torres said, expressing hope that Greenwood will remain at Getafe for another season or at least until January.

Meanwhile, new Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe confirmed that no definitive decision has been made on Greenwood’s future. However, sources indicate that a permanent departure is the most probable outcome, with Barcelona and Atlético Madrid expressing interest, although Barcelona’s attention has since waned.

Greenwood’s contributions to Getafe, tallying 10 goals and six assists in 32 appearances across all competitions, have solidified his value. His future remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: Getafe is eager to keep him.
