NEWCASTLE NOTES: ISAK'S MASCOT TAUNT, AMAZING TONALI TRIBUTE AND WILSON'S GOOD-WILL PENALTY GESTURE

Newcastle United ran riot at Turf Moor to record an excellent 4-1 win that will have football fans talking again about Eddie Howe's side.

They swept the Clarets aside to go 3-0 up before the break and arguably took their foot off the gas but still picked up a good victory in front of their fans. It nudged Newcastle up to sixth spot in the Premier League and means they could be just two wins from a place in Europe.

After the game, Howe stated his players once again have their confidence back after a mid-season slump and the way they popped the ball around in Lancashire suggested exactly that.

Alexander Isak gets last laugh over Burnley mascot - eventually

Alexander Isak did not have his best day in front of goal but still took his tally for the season to 25 for club and country. In the first half Isak chased a long ball down the left wing but couldn't get there, much to the delight of the home mascot Bertie Bee.

The mascot stuck his thumb on his nose and waggled his fingers in Isak's direction but the Sweden star would hit back. Despite missing a penalty and other chances, he made no mistake on 54 minutes to fire home from close range. And Bertie was nowhere to be seen at the end as Newcastle players lapped up the victory.

The biggest roar of the day did not come after a goal

Despite four goals at Turf Moor the biggest roar of the game arrived in the first half. It came when Joelinton charged down the touchline to warm-up after four months out with an injury.

The Brazil international has been missed by Newcastle but got some valuable minutes in the tank after replacing Longstaff for the final 13 minutes. Joelinton now had three more games to help the team achieve their goal of getting into Europe, it's certainly a timely return.

Callum Wilson present to Isak goes wrong

The number 9 was actually the designated penalty taker for the day but stepped aside when Isak indicated he wanted to take it. Therefore, it was something of an agonising one when Isak's effort was saved. Wilson had already taken his tally to 10 goals but may find himself back on penalty duty before the season is out.

Sandro Tonali tribute the loudest yet

The Italian international will not play again until August but now knows his ban will not be extended any longer. The ex-AC Milan star does have suspended sentence for betting for the next few months but can see light at the end of the tunnel.

In a week in which Tonali's fate was decided by an FA probe, the fans decided to pay tribute to him with the "Sandro, ole, ole, ole" chant. It felt louder than usual because of the week that was but then it was quickly converted to "Europe again, ole, ole, ole"

Newcastle are heading back for continental competition and Sandro will be going with them.
