LIVERPOOL VERBALLY AGREE COMPENSATION PACKAGE WITH ARNE SLOT TO REPLACE JURGEN KLOPP AS BOSS

Liverpool have verbally agreed a compensation package with Feyenoord for Arne Slot to replace Jurgen Klopp as manager next season.

The Reds opened talks with Slot on Wednesday over replacing manager Jurgen Klopp, who confirmed back in January that he will leave the club at the end of the season. The Dutchman is the first choice of Fenway Sports Group chief Michael Edwards and incoming director of football Richard Hughes.

Then before Feyenoord played Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday night, Slot admitted he wants to join Liverpool. He told ESPN: "I'd like to become the new Liverpool manager, my decision is clear, it's no secret.

"Feyenoord and Liverpool are in talks to negotiate, I'm waiting to see what will come out of it. I am confident, waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement."

Talks have accelerated over the past couple of days and Slot is on the verge of being confirmed as the next Liverpool manager. Mirror Sport understand that the Reds have now verbally agreed the compensation package - which could rise to around £13m - for Slot to replace Klopp.

Only the finer details and the contract being signed separate Slot, who had previously been linked with Leeds and Tottenham, from moving to Liverpool. Feyenoord are consigned to losing him and and have identified FC Twente boss Joseph Oosting as a target to replace him.

As well as Slot, Feyenoord assistant Sipke Hulshof is set to arrive, while head of performance Ruben Peeters and analyst Etienne Reijnen are among the others Slot is considering bringing with him. However, Feyenoord do not want to lose their entire backroom staff and will attempt to keep as many as they can.

Slot has been at Feyenoord since the summer of 2021 after arriving from AZ Alkmaar. During his first season, he reached the final of the Europa Conference League and finished third in Eredivisie. Last campaign, Feyenoord won the Dutch top-tier title before adding the KNVB Cup to his list of honours this month.

Meanwhile, current Reds boss Klopp delivered his opinion on Slot ahead of their trip to West Ham. He said: "I like a lot about it if he is the one who wants to take the job. I like the way his team play football, all the things I hear about him as a guy say he’s a good guy.

"I like that a lot - good guy, good coach and looking forward for the club if he is the solution. I’m more than happy, it sounds all really good."
