LIVERPOOL 'TO SWITCH FROM NIKE TO ADIDAS KITS' AS REDS STRIKE NEW MEGA MONEY DEAL

Liverpool are closing in on a mega-money deal to make Adidas their new kit suppliers, ditching Nike in the process.

Nike have supplied the Reds kits since the 2020/2021 campaign, with New Balance having the contract before that. Nike currently pay Liverpool a fee of £30million per season as part of their contract.

That is a relatively small sum for a top-tier team, though the Reds had been attracted by Nike's marketing and distribution reputation. Royalty payments on sales of replica teamwear are understood to push the fee beyond £50m per year. By comparison, Manchester United's kit deal with Adidas sees the Red Devils earn £90m per year. That deal is a Premier League record and was renewed for a further 10 years last summer.

That deal appears to have caught the attention of Liverpool, with SportBusiness reporting they are set to leave Nike for Adidas. The proposed deal will run for five years from the start of the 2025/2026 campaign.

A tender process for the lucrative contract was held recently, with Adidas fending off interest from Nike and Puma to win. It means Liverpool will be reunited with the German company after a 13-year break.

Adidas previously supplied their kit for six years between 2006 and 2012, before the Reds switched to Warrior. It is claimed that the new contract will be worth more than the current deal Liverpool have with Nike.

Puma were said to be 'at the table' but they are instead committing their focus to Manchester City, who have been Liverpool's biggest title rivals in recent seasons. Adidas have already signed Trent Alexander-Arnold to a lucrative boot deal this season.

The sportswear giants are making an 'aggressive push' having lost their prestigious contract with the German national team from 2027. Adidas has held that deal for more than 70 years and is now worth £43m a year.

But Nike have blown them out of the water to take over the role of supplying Germany from 2027. The next battleground will be over the French national team contract, with that tender process now underway.

As well as Liverpool, Nike currently also supply Chelsea, Tottenham and Brighton. Adidas meanwhile have deals with United, Arsenal, Fulham and Nottingham Forest, with Aston Villa and Newcastle joining their stable this summer.

Nike had faced a battle to supply Liverpool after New Balance took a case to court, arguing Liverpool were refusing to honour a renewal clause. But the High Court cited Nike's status as a key factor in ruling New Balance could not match the terms of the American's proposed deal.
