JURGEN KLOPP RESPONDS TO ARNE SLOT WITH MESSAGE FOR INCOMING LIVERPOOL MANAGER

Jurgen Klopp believes Arne Slot is inheriting the ‘best job in the world’ if he replaces him at Liverpool.

Feyenoord boss Slot, 45, said on Thursday night that he wants to come to Anfield this summer as the clubs negotiate a compensation package. Klopp will depart at the end of the season after almost nine years in charge with Dutchman Slot now the man set to replace him.

And the outgoing Kop boss has given his likely successor a glowing reference as well as saying he’s getting a great job. Klopp said: “I like a lot about it, if he is the one, he wants to take the job. Really is desperate. Come on, let’s go for it. Excited.

“I like the way his team play football. All the things I hear about him as a guy, a good guy. Some people I know know him, I don’t know him yet. Some people tell me that he is a really good guy. I like that a lot.

“Good coach, good guy. Looking forward for the club if he is the solution or the man. I’m more than happy. It’s not up to me to judge these things but it all sounds really good to me.

“Best job in the world, best club in the world, best job in the world. Obviously now I even help by not finishing on a high, it looks like. There is space for improvement. Great job, great team, fantastic people. He ‘would’ take a really, really interesting job.”

Klopp’s hopes of departing with a Premier League title look slim after suffering a shock defeat at the hands of Everton on Wednesday night. The Reds head into Saturday’s clash with West Ham knowing they need Arsenal and Manchester City to slip up twice in the final weeks of the season.

But they also have to win their four remaining games and Klopp took full blame after the surprise 2-0 loss against the Toffees. "I can’t remember ever being as disappointed and frustrated as I was after the Everton game, I lost a lot of games in my life but it was special we were not there,” said Klopp.

“You watch the other two Arsenal and City playing very positive football and high results. We are where we are because we play positive football and we were not able to.

“I blame myself 100 per cent because we were not in the mood. We lost pretty much all the decisive battles, that was really really bad.”

But Klopp insists he won’t give up on the title despite the fact they trail Arsenal by three points and City by two, with the defending champions also having a game in hand. “We have chances but it just feels we are trying to catch up with something. We have to do that. I will try everything that we can to try our football again because that was not possible in the last game.

“I cannot say I think they still feel us around, I am pretty sure Arsenal and City now see it as a two-horse race, they have to say something else publicly but I don’t expect them to lose two games.

“I am not in the mood to raise the white flag. We have to look at ourselves.”
