JOSH KROENKE CAN OFFSET £300M ARSENAL SUMMER TRANSFER SPEND WITH SIX SHREWD DECISIONS

The question is a case of whether Arsenal could spend a sum of money close to £300million in one summer window. However, that is likely what is going to be needed in the context of a 2023 summer transfer plan considering the asking prices of some transfer targets.

The club have an interest in signing both Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo football.london understands. West Ham reportedly want a figure close to if not more than triple-million numbers for their captain and Brighton rejected £70million from the Gunners in January for Caicedo.

This would be for just two of the players that Arsenal need in the summer. There’s a good argument that three or even four more are needed to get the club into a position where it can challenge Manchester City to a greater degree and compete across four fronts, including the reintroduction to the Champions League.

Josh Kroenke, co-chairman and son of the club’s owner Stan Kroenke, faces the questions of investment. No one can deny the club has invested plenty in the club’s transfers, in fact, Arsenal have spent more than half a billion pounds on players since their full takeover in 2018.

However, only recently has the success of the investment begun to show real promise. Mistakes made on the likes of Nicolas Pepe, Sokratis and Lucas Torreira are being replaced with shrewd deals for players that are now fulcrums of the team like Martin Odegaard, Ben White and Gabriel Magalhães.

What hasn’t improved has been the capacity to recoup serious funds on players. Joe Willock and Emi Martinez have been Edu's only major sales since Raul Sanllehi departed as head of football and this summer the resources to move on are not in short supply.

If the Brazilian can get some serious or, in some cases, reasonable amounts of money for the likes of Kieran Tierney, Folarin Balogun, Emile Smith Rowe, Rob Holding, Nicolas Pepe, Granit Xhaka and others then it could create a huge offset from a £300million investment on players.

Not to mention the opportunities in the free agent market. Raphael Guerreiro for instance could be an excellent Kieran Tierney replacement and not cost a penny in transfer fees.

While in the past investment in these realms seemed like a fantasy, the reality is that should the Gunners want the players that can transform their side then that’s what must be offered. Sides like Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool will not be waiting around to see if Arsenal are willing to do it either, they’ve got their own issues to solve and you can guarantee that they’ll be tackled with many millions of pounds themselves.
