HULL FC IDENTIFY KEY HEAD COACH TRAIT AS RICHIE MYLER REFUSES TO RUSH DECISION

Richie Myler has laid out the qualities he's looking for as Hull FC continue to search for a new permanent head coach. The Black and Whites made a high-profile move for Salford Red Devils boss Paul Rowley last week and have now turned their attention to other options.

That has seen Myler take stock this week as Hull, who parted ways with Tony Smith last month and are now running with Simon Grix in interim charge, assess their next direction, with the importance of getting the next appointment right vital for the future of the club.

Working with the performance staff, Myler is determined to appoint a candidate who can bring an identity to Hull that aligns with the club's vision and is prepared to hold out to find the right option.

"I'm looking for someone that is going to come in and add to us," Myler told the BBC. "Someone that is going to help us define what we want to stand for as a club, whether that is a technician, a leader, an old bloke, or a young bloke.

"That's me sitting on the fence, but what I don't want to do is rush into a decision where in 12/18 months time we're thinking, 'Oh dear' and we're in a situation where we still don't know what we stand for on the field as a team, we haven't defined what we want to look like, and we've got the wrong bloke.

"Those conversations aren't going to be short conversations. They're going to be long conversations and in-depth so we get the right guy. There's been lots of candidates and every single person seems to think they know who we are talking to, but the person that comes in here has got to help us as a team. It's got to be a team effort.

"It's not one bloke signing people and the rest running the team; it's collective, and that's what I've said since I've walked through the front door. All of our recruitment and what we want to look like has to be a team effort.

"We've got Franny Cummins working in the academy and as an assistant coach role at the moment. His wealth of what he sees in a player and how he's assessed players for years is invaluable to me. Those people need to be in a room while we discuss who we are going to bring in."

Myler, who insists the new candidate will be backed to build a stern and competitive squad, added: "This is a huge club with huge potential. Any coach looking at this club will be thinking, I'm going to have the resources and backing from the board, the youngsters and the academy

"It's not an easy challenge, but there are lots of coaches who have put their hands up, and there are lots of people who want to come and help. That's the biggest thing."
