‘DISRESPECTFUL’ – WHY WREXHAM VS STOCKPORT WILL BE FEISTY DESPITE RYAN REYNOLDS & ROB MCELHENNEY ENSURING THAT RED DRAGONS WILL BE JOINING PROMOTION RIVALS IN LEAGUE ONE

  • Welsh outfit heading into third tier
  • Have enjoyed back-to-back promotions
  • Final day showdown with the Hatters

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Red Dragons have just one more fixture to take in this season, with a top-three finish in League Two already wrapped up. Phil Parkinson has overseen back-to-back promotions for Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, with summer transfer plans in the process of being drawn up.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Stockport will be visitors to North Wales on Saturday, with the Hatters getting their hands on the fourth-tier title in 2023-24. There will be a party atmosphere at SToK Racecourse, but Palmer has revealed why there will also be a feisty edge to proceedings when two teams heading in the same direction lock horns.

WHAT PALMER SAID

The Wrexham striker has said of there being no letting up despite ultimate targets already being hit: “There’s rivalry with Stockport, their manager [Dave Challinor] has been disrespectful to our club in the past and we are all aware of that. They have won the league so credit to them, well done, but we have both achieved the same thing at the end of the day and we have done it back-to-back. What we have done is incredible. Only a couple of teams have done back-to-back promotions. We want to finish with maximum points and we want to give the fans a great day for the final day of the season. We want to finish as high as we can with as many points as we can.”

WHAT NEXT FOR WREXHAM?

Wrexham could still finish as runners-up behind Stockport, if they pick up at least a point on the final day and Mansfield come unstuck away at Barrow. Final standings mean little in the grand scheme of things, though, with the Red Dragons ensuring that there is plenty more drama to be covered in the new series of their award-winning documentary series.
