CAMBUSLANG RANGERS HOPE 'HOME COMFORTS' CAN AID LEAGUE SURVIVAL, SAYS BOSS

Cambuslang Rangers boss Paul McColl has urged fans to back them in their numbers as they bid to stay in the West of Scotland First Division.

McColl hopes to stun leaders Drumchapel United on Saturday, having beat Neilston 2-1 on Wednesday night, because that could put them to within a win of survival, with two games left.

Wednesday night’s win – Camby’s fifth of the league season, with goals from 17-year-old Godson Nechi and Nathan McConnell – left them five points ahead of second-bottom Whitletts Vics and two behind Maybole.

Maybole have two games in hand, while Whitletts have played one fewer, with Cambuslang travelling to their 13th-placed opponents on May 4.

McColl said: “It was a good win and it gives us a chance.

“I’m a wee bit annoyed with the second half, to be honest, too many guys didn’t listen to what they were told, and it wasn’t that we could have lost the game – they didn’t have a lot of chances – but we made mistakes.

“In the first half we should have been out of sight, we had some good saves from their goalkeeper, but we rolled up the sleeves and got a good win.”

McColl hopes Cambuslang fans will pack out the Eastfield Roofing and Building Services Stadium on Saturday when Drumchapel come calling, as they go for what would be a colossal win.

He said: “If we win that game we could be another game away from staying up.

“It will be a hard task, they’re a good team and have a decent budget, but we’ll go in there and try to win the game.

“We’re at home, which is great, and it will be a tough game.

“There are some big games coming up and we’re taking it one game at a time.

“To be honest, it’s a toss of a coin who is going to win their next couple of games. We’re at home and fancy ourselves, so hopefully the home advantage counts.

“Hopefully our fans come out and back us, and we can get the win.

“It has been a poor season, but we can turn it around with a few wins, so here’s hoping.

“We need to start winning games, which we’ve not been doing enough.

“Draws have killed us, eight draws is too many, but football is funny, and we can turn it around.

“We’ve got the players there to do it, we just need to believe that we can get a few wins.

“Drumchapel are one of the best teams in the league and drew with Whitletts last weekend, which just shows you that these are good teams down here.

“We’re at home to the Drum, and we’ll go for it. We’ll try to get a win.”
