BOLTON BOOK PLACE AT WEMBLEY DESPITE LOSS AGAINST BARNSLEY

Bolton Wanderers booked their spot at Wembley for the League One play-off final despite a 3-2 loss to Barnsley in the second leg at Toughsheet Community Stadium.

Despite leading 3-1 from the first leg, Barnsley never gave up and narrowed the gap with a goal from Sam Cosgrove nine minutes before half-time.

However, the Trotters responded swiftly as Aaron Collins scored from distance to level the game, and Eoin Toal headed in from a corner, to turn the game around before half-time.

Adam Phillips reignited Barnsley's hopes with a goal in the 64th mintue, assisted by Cosgrove, who then scored his second 12 minutes later with a header from Conor Grant's delivery, bringing Barnsley within a goal of Bolton.

Despite a late surge from the Tykes, with clear chances for Mael de Gevigney and Cosgrove, they fell short of reaching the final for the second consecutive season.

Bolton will now face either Oxford United or Peterborough United for promotion to the Championship on Saturday, 18 May at Wembley.
